Pygmalion is the name of a character in Greek Mythology who fell in love with a sculpture he created, and it came to life. George Bernard Shaw wrote a play by the same name, about Eliza Doolittle, a Cockney flower girl who is coached so that she can be passed off as a duchess at an ambassador's tea party. Her coach is Professor Henry Higgins, a professor of phonetics.
The play subsequently inspired a musical and the film, My Fair Lady.
