A Quick Overview Of Chardonnay
Chardonnay is the name of a white grape which originated in Burgundy. It is relatively easy to grow, which contributes to its popularity. It is one of 3 grape varieties permitted to be used in the making of champagne, and the only grape variety permitted for AOC Chablis wines.
Chardonnay produces very different wines, depending on wine-making and terroir. Wines made with Chardonnay don't have a single defining characteristic, save for a tendency to produce fruity fresh wines. I have a long memory, so I'm still prejudiced against Chardonnay because of the Bridget Jones thing, but I'll stoop to Blanc de Blancs if I must (champagne made exclusively from Chardonnay grapes) ;-)
Chardonnay is of course also the name of the varietal wine produced these grapes (varietal means the wine is made entirely, or predominantly from the variety of grape it is named for).
